Leads 2 Biz : Networking Giving Results

SERGEANT AT ARMS (SAA)

The SAA is responsible to make sure the agenda is adhered to.  Parking lot discussions, (items that are not part of the weekly agenda) are held until the meeting ends.  The SAA may wish to keep a list of these for later discussion.  The SAA is very important to the chapters success.  They also must:

  • make sure the agenda is followed, including asking the President, VP, Meeting Director and Treasurer to move things along when falling behind schedule, roaming off track or going off on tangents.
  • Be the person, other than the President/VP to step in firmly but professionally when a member is taking too long to give their presentation, 60-second elevator speech, or interrupting too often.
  • Be the voice to start the formal portion of the meeting after the initial “networking” portion for 15 minutes.  This is part of the meeting and is a time to accomplish the tasks of the Treasurer and Meeting Director.
  • Make sure the breakfast orders are in, and late arrivals take their orders, outside the meeting to the servers and insure no disruptions at the meetings.
  • If a discussion item looks like it could become too time consuming, the SAA will announce a “tabled” item for later discussion.  Once seconded, the item is tabled to the "parking lot", and at meeting conclusion.  Parking lot discussions are those that could take up the entire meeting and “destroy or hurt” the purpose of our meetings if continued.  While they may be great discussions, if continued, the meeting agenda will be lost.
  • If an unprofessional individual disrupts a meeting, interrupts others, uses cell phone, we would ask the SAA to please escort the person outside the meeting for a separate discussion and a stern warning.  If their behavior at meetings continues in an unprofessional manner, the Ethics chairperson will bring this to the attention of the board members for a vote to discontinue the membership of the individual.
